Women with leadership skills will be recognised for their efforts by the Victorian government – but time is running out for applications.
Nominations for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women 2014 will close this Friday (September 27), meaning people have just a few days to suggest candidates for the award.
Established in 2001, the ceremony celebrates the achievements of Victorian women across various fields, including community services, aged care, arts and the media, law, health and science.
Minister for women’s affairs Heidi Victoria urged people to come forward and nominate the state’s outstanding women.
“The roll recognises and celebrates women who have made an inspirational contribution to Victoria through their vision, leadership, commitment and hard work,” she explained.
“I’d urge all Victorians to take a look at the women around them – co-workers, community leaders, artists, businesswomen, academics, teachers or scientists – and think about nominating them.”
There have already been over 500 women inducted onto the roll, with Ms Victoria stating that she is “delighted” more will be added soon.
Interested in nominating someone? Online applications are available at the Victorian government’s Department of Human Services website.
To be eligible, nominees must either have been born in the state, spent large portions of their life there or made a significant contribution to Victoria.
“The vision, leadership and commitment of the women on the Honour Roll has enriched Victoria, and their stories of success have been a source of inspiration to all Victorians,” Ms Victoria said.
The inductees for next year’s honour roll will be announced in March 2014, as part of International Women’s Day.
Earlier this month, the Victorian government announced a raft of initiatives to boost female participation in the workplace.
The coalition is investing $1.8 million for a variety of schemes that aim to achieve equal representation and advance women’s leadership skills.
