The Honourable Dr. Esperança Bias is the Minister for Mineral Resources of Mozambique. She has been in this role since 2005, and prior to that, she was the Deputy Minister for the Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique for five years.
She graduated with a degree in Economics from the Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique in 1990 and worked as the Managing Director of the Polished Gems and Precious Stones Company until 1991. She then served as the Deputy Director of the Coal Programme Office until 1995.
Dr. Bias acquired her extensive knowledge in the energy and mineral sector through 20 years of work experience in the industry and numerous training programmes, namely the First Seminar on the Evolution of the Mozambican Energy Sector, held in 1996.
She is an active member of the following associations: the Mozambican Association of Economists, Friend of the Mozambique Organization of Continuers, FAWE Mozambique, AZIMAE and the Mozambican Women Organization.
In her spare time, Dr. Bias likes reading, listening to music and gardening. She is fluent in Portuguese and English.
