Close-Up: Chandana Unnithan

chandana.unnithanIn the last 5 years, influenced by the pervasive power of technology and other mandates, Australian hospitals began exploring digital forms of keeping medical records. These efforts required process flow redesign and changes to existing modes of work in hospitals.

Chandana Unnithan is a Faculty member of Business and Law – School of Information and Business Analytics at Deakin University. Chandana will be presenting at the 2nd annual Elective Surgery Redesign Conference, to be held on the 25th and 26th November, about implementing changes with medical record systems. The talk will draw upon best practice recommendations gained  from experiences. The presentation will include a research study commissioned by a large hospital in Victoria, that explored the changes required while implementing scanned medical records systems in the elective admissions area. The presentation will highlight efforts made to maximize the benefits of digital medical records implementation by hospitals.

Chandana  holds qualifications in Information Systems and Management from India and Australia, including an MBA and MbusComp from RMIT University, Australia.

After a global career spanning 8 years in the ICT sector with organisations such as IBM Global and TATA , in varied roles ranging from Project Manager to Director, she moved to an academic career in Australia. Currently, she teaches Project Management and manages Work Integrated Learning  for the faculty. She has a variety of research interests including electronic governance, social informatics and infonomics and focuses on health informatics research. She has authored 3 books and co-authored several peer reviewed and industry publications with associates. Apart from being on the editorial board of several academic journals and a conference committee member for international conferences, she has also supervised research students and examined honors/masters theses successfully for many years.
