Prof. John Skerritt joined the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) as its National Manager in May 2012. He is also a member of the Executive of the Australian Department of Health. TGA is responsible for regulating therapeutic goods including prescription, over the counter and complementary medicines, medical devices, blood and blood products. Prof. Skerritt is leading the implementation of TGA’s broad-ranging reforms.
Professor Skerritt will be delivering a keynote presentation at the 7th annual Pharmaceutical Law Conference, taking place on 29th and 30th May at the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel. His topic will be “An update from the medicines regulator: Managing and communicating risk and strengthening international regulatory convergence”.
He has a University Medal and PhD in Pharmacology and is an adjunct Professor at both the Universities of Queensland and Canberra, Australia. He is formerly a Deputy Secretary in the Victorian State Government and has extensive experience in medical, agricultural and environmental policy, regulation, research, research management, technology application and commercialisation. In the 1990s, he patented and commercialised over a dozen in vitro diagnostic tests for the international market.
