Stephen (Shamus) Walsh*, General Manager of Hardface Technology’sWe are pleased to welcome to the speaker faculty of Heavy Haul Rail 2013 Stephen (Shamus) Walsh*, General Manager of Hardface Technology’s.

After graduating in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Technology, Cork City, Ireland, Shamus began his career working for Kentree Ltd. in Ireland, where he specialised in robotics and automation.

In 1988 he moved to Melbourne to join ESAB Australia, specialising in industrial welding equipment, in particular, automation. For the next 16 years he worked with ESAB, in Sydney, Singapore and in Sweden becoming the Technical Services Manager for Asia before taking on the role of Global Manager for Mechanised TIG where he was responsible for the commissioning of large installations such as ship-building panel lines, the set-up of service centres and the training of personnel.

Throughout his career Shamus has lived  and worked extensively overseas including  Malaysia, Thailand, China, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Korea, Hong Kong, Borneo, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and in Europe, Sweden, Norway, Italy and Hungary.

Shamus began specialising in rail upon his return to Australia in 2003, joining Hardface Technologys, based in Sydney where he is currently the General Manager. Hardface Technologys specialise in rebuilding, repairing and recycling railway track.

*Shamus will be delivering a case study on Advancing processes for the in-situ repair of damaged heavy haul track at Heavy Haul Rail 2013. He will be sharing with delegates newly developed repair process for heavy haul railway and the potential benefits plus insights into the potential to recycle old components that have been removed from service due to wear.
