Peter Wells joined Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) four years ago as the Director Customer & Compliance. He is currently responsible for managing the NSW customer and regulatory functions for heavy and light vehicles. He also oversees licensing and registration policy and business systems covering large state-wide functions and encompasses 23 million annual transactions, 4.9 million driver licences and 5.7 million vehicle

Peter will co-present a presentation with his colleague Paul Endycott, General Manager Compliances Operations Branch at the 8th annual Chain of Responsibility Conference (CoR), to be held on the 2nd December in Sydney. The talk will give conference attendees an update on the RMS’ holistic approach to improving heavy vehicle safety. Issues to be covered will include an examination of recent CoR cases pursued by the RMS and their implications for the freight sector. Peter and Paul will also speak about the state authority’s long-term vision and the strategies that are being deployed to encourage a cultural shift across the entire supply chain.

Peter has a professional interest in several key areas: leadership and setting strategic direction for organisations and work teams; service delivery and continuous improvement; policy development and implementation; regulatory compliance and enforcement; collaboration with industry to improve policy and regulatory outcomes; positive engagement of top management, staff and the community; and governance and ethics.

Peter has both a Bachelors and Masters degree and possesses over 17 years experience in customer service, regulation and enforcement including managing a series of areas including regulating vehicles and road use, environment protection, investigating financial fraud, reforming licensing functions, motor vehicle emissions, auditing and community education/engagement, often working in complex or controversial areas.
