Domestic violence – The hard truth in numbers

17 Sep 2014, by Informa Insights

Between 2008 and 2010, 89 women were KILLED by their current or former partner – this equates to almost 1 woman killed every week.

A 2012 survey revealed that 17% of women participants had suffered physical or sexual violence by a current or former partner since the age of 15, and 5.3% of their male counterparts were affected. Emotional abuse is also very common, affecting 1 in 4 women.

These are serious figures.

The below infographic gives a snapshot of domestic violence in Australia.

To find out more about the initiatives, research and resourceful partnerships that are helping make a positive change towards domestic violence, please join community, welfare and healthcare groups alongside with the government agencies devoted to combating domestic violence, at the National Domestic Violence Conference this December in Sydney.
