Claire Austin is a consulting Principal at Sapere Research Group. She specialises in health workforce issues, primary and rural health care policy, health reform and service development, health practitioner regulation and health sector organisation strategy and change management. Claire will be sharing her knowledge and experience with attendees at the 2014 Developing the Role of the Nurse Practitioner conference, to be held on the 17-18 March. She will lead a workshop session on strategies in addressing workforce issues and succession planning. Claire will talk about how management can best facilitate the introduction of the Nurse Practitioner role and creating a consistent approach to training and education.
Prior to joining Sapere, Claire has 16 years senior management health sector experience including extensive strategic and operational leadership as a Chief Executive in the New Zealand and Australian health sectors at national, state and local levels of primary care. She has a strong track record of strategic leadership, change management, institution and capacity building, community consultation and policy advice.
Claire has in-depth knowledge of international, Australian and New Zealand health workforce issues including issues of attraction, recruitment and distribution in primary and rural health care settings. She also has extensive knowledge of medical registration practice and registration pathways. Claire has worked at the cutting edge of primary care, workforce reform, and implementation within and outside of Government through building strong, sustainable service partnerships and alliances.
Claire holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Victoria University, New Zealand, She completed the International Health Leadership Program at Judge Institute of Management, University of Cambridge, England and more recently was acknowledged as an Executive Fellow, Australia and New Zealand School of Government.
