22 Aug 2013, by Informa Insights

Adam_Bandt_2013Campaign_Photo_OFFICIALWith so much debate on transport and infrastructure focussing on the needs of Melbourne, Informa is fortunate to be hosting the Federal Member for Melbourne and Australian Greens Deputy Leader, Adam Bandt at the Victorian Transport Infrastructure Summit.

Adam’s portfolio of responsibilities ranges from education to workplace relations, however he is particularly passionate about creating a high speed rail connection along the East Coast of Australia. Originating from the Greens Party, Adam has been passionate about pricing carbon and has made news recently with a new initiative to help bring renewable energy solutions to smaller communities.

Adam completed a PhD at Monash University in 2008, and prior to this attained an Honours degree in Law/Arts at Murdoch University. During his career practicing law, Adam represented clients who were underpaid in the clothing industry.

Since entering in to parliament, Adam has been campaigning for changes to Victoria’s transport network in order to improve energy efficiency and congestion. He will be discussing the opportunities for high speed rail to reduce carbon emissions. This is an initiative that the Greens have supported tirelessly as it will also have a great economic impact on regional centres along the East Coast. Adam discusses the need to fast track high speed rail:

Victorian Transport Infrastructure Summit“This is a nation-building project that will improve connectedness between our cities and towns, boost economic competitiveness and provide better transport options for millions of Australians for generations to come.”

He adds, “The Greens are worried that old parties are putting high speed rail on the slow track. We want to get moving. Australia and Antarctica are now the only two continents in the world where there is no high speed rail project underway.”

If you would like to hear more about Adam Bandt and his campaign for high speed rail, you can register for the Victorian Transport Infrastructure here. Adam will be speaking on the 13th of September at 2.05pm; we hope to see you there.
