Michelle French is an occupational therapist with 30 years of experience in the field. She is the Director and Principle Therapist at Michelle French + Associates (MFA).
Michelle will be co-presenting a session at the 3rd Annual Younger People with very High & Complex Care Needs Conference, taking place on 19th and 20th June in Melbourne, on the topic “A Client Centred Model of Care for People with Very High Physical, Cognitive & Communication Needs Living in the Community”.
Starting off her career at Yooralla working with children with cerebral palsy, Michelle co-founded the Microcomputer applications Center (now known as Comtec) – it was the first centre of its kind in Australia. She then went onto to be the Manager of Equipment services at Yooralla, including the Independent Living Center, equipment library and electronic communication devices scheme. She was also the founder of the equipment library and electronic communication devices scheme.
Michelle has served on various state and national boards and executive committees concerned with technology and service delivery for people with disabilities. She is currently President of the Victorian Brain Injury Recovery Association (VBIRA).
After leaving Yooralla in 1994 and establishing her own practice Michelle French + Associates, Michelle worked with many government and non-government agencies. Her clinical practice specializes in working with children and adults with catastrophic injuries, in particular people with acquired brain injuries.
Michelle has developed a reputation of excellence in medico-legal work nationally and internationally. In the past 15 years Michelle has been working closely with Marg Darcy, Physiotherapist at Marg Darcy and Associates, to develop a method of working with people in their own environments, which emphasizes their strengths and enhances their quality of life.
