Nkululeko PoyaMr. Nkululeko Poya, a civil engineering technologist with 13 years of rail engineering, project and business management experience, currently serves as the South African Railway Safety Regulator’s CEO. With key competencies in road infrastructure, property, contract and traffic management, he is renowned for the successful implementation and management of the Kei Rail Project. To date, this project still serves as a flagship project for the Eastern Cape and the entire Country on the revitalisation of rail Branch lines. As the previous Deputy Director General for Road, Public Transport and Infrastructure Roads, he was primarily responsible for the Traffic Management and Public Transport sections within this Department. Included in his functions were: the management of maritime activities within the Eastern Cape Province, port infrastructure development, the development of industrial zones (IDZ’s) which included the Coega IDZ, freight logistics and the management of weigh bridge infrastructure.

Mr. Poya regularly contributes to various professional journals, newspapers and magazines. His natural appetite for learning, knowledge and improved organizational and rail safety performance motivates him to continuously seek innovative and results-based solutions to the challenges currently faced by the rail sector in establishing rail as a safe, reliable, efficient and accountable mode of public transport in both South Africa and the SADC region. He firmly believes that the road to success is always under construction – it’s the journey and not the destination that counts.

Mr Poya will be addressing Rail Rehabilitation and Asset Management in Johannesburg on September 18th to discuss “Asset management as an integral part of your safety management system”.
