Close-Up: Peter J. Hancock

Peter-J-HancockPeter J. Hancock has been appointed President of Koniambo Nickel SAS in April 2011. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 1986 with a Bachelors Degree in Metallurgical Engineering and followed this up with a Masters Degree in 1988. Upon graduation he started working in the mining industry at Noranda’s Technology Centre in Pointe Claire, Quebec. While at the Tech Centre he completed a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from McGill University graduating in 1995.

Later in 1995 he transferred to the Brunswick Smelter as Technical Superintendent and went on to hold a series of management roles in production, business and technical support. From 2002 until 2005 he held the role of Director of Technology for Noranda’s, and then Falconbrige’s zinc business. In 2006 he returned to the Brunswick Smelter to assume the role of General Manager. Soon after Falconbrige was acquired by Xstrata and the Brunswick Smelter became part of Xstrata’s global zinc business.

Peter will be speaking at the upcoming New Caledonia Nickel Conference on the 1-5 July 2013 in New Caledonia. He’ll be speaking on “Koniambo – the first production”.
