As ARTC’s alliance partner in delivering the Metropolitan Freight Network (MFN) – Port Botany Rail Link (PBRL), Downer Infrastructure is responsible for the management of signaling, civil & track design, construction, testing and commissioning.
Downer is adding to the already delivered rail infrastructure that formed Stage 1 of this project, which included a major yard reconfiguration, 34 turn outs and 11km of track and signaling upgrades.
Stage 2 which is currently under construction, consists of three separate portions over 19km from Enfield West to Port Botany, where Downer will be responsible for the management of signaling, civil & track design, construction, testing and commissioning.
In addition to the delivery of rail infrastructure, Downers management of this project has also involved gaining the appropriate environmental approvals before works commence, and community liaison to ensure, local residents, public and stakeholders impacted by construction is mitigated and well communicated.
Before construction Downer assisted ARTC with interface agreements with adjoining stakeholders along the corridor. Including Enfield yards Pacific National and the new Sydney Ports intermodal terminal. Downer is currently working side by side with the client on an integrated board and delivery team to ensure ‘best for project’ direction and strategy is followed.
Throughout the scope, development and design, Downer has advised the client to ensure the best solution is developed for operations and value for money is constructed.
Through careful staging and planning of works, the project has successfully delivered over 65% of the scope on program, with zero LTI’s and minimal impact to the operational network.
