Hospitals under Queensland’s Metro South Hospital and Health Service demonstrated that they are among the best in Australia, surpassing national benchmarks in a recent quality survey.
According to the recently released Best Practice Australia patient satisfaction survey, more than nine out of 10 Metro South Health patients reported they are happy with the overall quality of care they received in their most recent admission to hospital. The Metro South Health jurisdiction covers hospitals in the south of Brisbane, Bayside, Logan and Beaudesert.
“Patient care is at the core of everything we do. It’s important for us to know and understand if we are meeting our patient’s needs,” said Health Service Chief Executive Dr Richard Ashby.
“I’m really pleased to say that across all facilities within Metro South Health the average ratings for patient satisfaction measured against indicators of nursing care, clinical quality and safety and hospital services were met or exceeded by our facilities.”
Dr Ashby added that Metro South Health’s results were measured against 34 public hospitals across the country by way of comparison. A total of 95 per cent of Metro South Health patients said they were satisfied with the treatment they received, compared to the national average of 91 per cent.
The Wynnum Health Service was one of the best-performing hospitals in the survey, with patients rating the quality of their most recent visit at 100 per cent. Patients emphasised the exceptional quality of nursing staff in particular.
In fact, respondents rated satisfaction with all but one of the 25 possible ‘nursing care indicators’ in the survey at 100 per cent.
Redland Hospital was another high-performing healthcare provider. A total of 98 per cent of patients said they were satisfied with the medical treatment they received, while 95 per cent were happy with the amount of information they were presented with prior to being admitted.
