As we draw closer to the 13th annual AusIntermodal conference, we’d like to introduce Michael Pezzullo, who will be delivering a keynote address for the first time at AusIntermodal.
Michael was appointed as CEO of the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service on 15 February 2013. Prior to this, he was Acting Chief Executive Officer September 2012, following the retirement of former CEO Michael Carmody.
His previous roles include Deputy Secretary Strategy in the Department of Defence where he was responsible for defence strategy and planning among many other things. He also had oversight of the Department’s ministerial support and public affairs programmes.
In March 1993, he joined the staff of the Foreign Minister, Senator the Hon Gareth Evans QC. Michael remained here until February 2002 and during this time he served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition Kim Beazley for five years. Michael has a BA (Hons) in History from Sydney University. He enjoys being with his family, cricket and rugby league, and reading (anything on military history, strategy, international relations, intelligence, political biography and philosophy, for starters).
Michael’s presentation at AusIntermodal will cover recent changes to the Customs Act (1901) and how these changes will help to secure Australia’s supply chain. These changes have been given a mix of reviews from freight experts, as Professor Michael Bell will also be discussing how some of these changes may be harmful to the industry.
