The annual Katherine Regional Mining & Exploration Forum returns on 26-27 May this year with the theme “Developing Katherine as the regional service and supply hub to the mining, and oil and gas sectors”.
Actively supported by the Katherine Mining Services Association (KMSA) and endorsed by the Northern Territory Government, the conference is an opportunity to hear from resources leaders, local and regional business about project updates and outlook on the region’s economic development.
“For members of the Katherine Region Mining Services Association (KMSA) this forum has delivered much more than just opportunities to expand our businesses,” Kevin Grey, Chairman of the Katherine Chamber of Commerce.
The conference will open with a Welcome to Country from May Rosas, Ngaigu-Mulu Aboriginal Corporation. The Welcome address will be delivered by Katherine Town Council Fay Miller.
We will have the honour to receive the continuous support of Hon. Willem Westra van Holthe MLA, Deputy Chief Minister, Northern Territory Government who will deliver the keynote government address and open the discussions.
Day 1 of the conference will bring you insights into the current opportunities for Katherine by the KMSA and Deloitte, followed by an update on mining operations and projects by Crocodile Gold, Vista Gold Australia, and McArthur River Mine.
There will be two panel discussions on the topic of procurement and social responsibility requirements with Glencore and the Chamber of Commerce NT, and the KMSA and Coffey respectively. The Australian Government Department of Education and Training, and Long Halliwell will be joining us in the afternoon of Day 1 to discuss workforce, training and employment strategies.
“[The conference] provided a stimulating environment to share information about key projects, both operational and proposed, and services available in the region,” Brent Murdoch, General Manager of Vista Gold Australia.
Day 2 of the conference will look at the potential for growth in the wider Katherine region, as well as onshore gas, infrastructure and regional development in the area. Joining us on Day 2 are the Department of Mines and Energy, Phoenix Copper and Origin Energy.
Not to be missed at this year’s conference are the exciting networking functions, which include a Welcome Reception, Conference Dinner, Vista Gold – Mt Todd Mine Site Visit and KMSA Business Tour.
