Slurry Pipelines Summit “re-energised” participants

26 Nov 2014, by Informa Insights

On the 11th & 12th of November 2014, Informa ran the 4th Annual Slurry Pipelines Conference in Perth. It is the world’s only event to focus solely on mineral slurry pipelines and in particular the intricacies of their design, construction and maintenance.

The event was very well received by delegates, speakers, exhibitors and other attendees, in particular once such attendee who had this to say:

“I had built slurry pipeline capability in our pipelines business here in Perth but there has been so little interest in pipelines locally that we’ve neglected that capability and you’ve gotten me re-energised, so thanks for that.” We are glad we could help and hopefully other attendees managed to takeaway some key insights from the experts that presented and the networking that was offered. We have made the conference papers available for free to download on slideshare. A couple are shown below.

What did participants think are the key challenges that lay ahead?

Many remarked that the falling iron ore price is a major issue. As I type this the price has now hit a 5 year low and there are further reports predicting the price to drop to below $US60. Our upcoming Global Iron Ore & Steel Forecast event will see many analysts and major players share their thoughts on the future of the commodity.

Other challenges that were brought up included:

– Finding cost effective solutions for capital projects
– Reducing maintenance and operation costs through industry sharing
– Optimising plant recovery and performance along with equipment reliability
– Market introduction of new products to Australia
– Development of new intelligent solutions
– Depressed local market

That wraps up another year for all things slurry pipelines. We have yet to announce 2015 dates but to stay in the loops with developments you can fill in your details here.
